Mayor Evangelista orders assistance to El Niňo-hit farmers in Kidapawan City

Kidapawan City Mayor Jose Paolo M. Evangelista has ordered the concerned local government agencies to assist the farmers in the city affected by El Niňo phenomenon.

This, as partial damage to crops due to drought has already reached to around P2.587 million, covering 29 hectares of farmland in the city.

The Office of the City Agriculturist (OCA) and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) were directed to conduct water rationing and use water pumps to water the plants and provide drinking water for the farm animals.

“Patuloy naman ang monitoring at reporting sa mga kasiraan sa mga pananim, pagpapadali sa proseso ng pagbibigay ng insurance sa mga nasirang pananim sa tulong ng Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation, pamimigay ng vegetable seeds at iba pang planting materials na pwedeng itanim kahit mainit ang panahon,” the city government said.

Based on OCA data, from March 1 to 31 this year, 170 farmers have been affected by El Niňo, which also destroyed some palay, corn, vegetables, and other high value crops in Barangays Macebolig, Kalaisan, Poblacion, Sudapin, Linangkob, Amazion, Binoligan, and Sikitan.
