Mayor Furigay orders measures vs ASF in Lamitan City

Lamitan City Mayor Roderick H. Furigay has ordered to implement measures to control the spread of African swine fever (ASF) in the city.

The directive is contained in Executive Order No. 18, series of 2024, which the mayor issued on Tuesday, June 4.

“The City Government of Lamitan, to respond to the urgent need for stricter measures to cope with the sudden occurrence of ASF infections in the City, has to implement effective and coordinated policies and strategies to manage, contain and control the spread of ASF in consistent with the national policies and directives.” Furigay said in the EO.

He said the control measures are based on the ASF Contingency Plan set by the Bureau of Animal Industry.

The mayor directed the City Veterinary Office and City Agriculture Office to establish and strengthen veterinary quarantine checkpoints and strictly enforce the quarantine control protocols for live hogs, pork and pork products, and by products.

Furigay ordered the prohibition o the transport of swine products in and out of Lamitan.

Confiscation of the products and fine of up to P5,000 shall be imposed against violators of the EO.
