Mayor Pacquiao creates council for senior citizens

General Santos City Mayor Lorelie Pacquao wanted to make sure that senior citizens in the city are well-taken care of.

Recently, the local chief executive has issued an executive order creating a coordinating and monitoring council for the effective implementation of the Expanded Seniors Citizens Act of 2010.

Under Executive Order No. 17, Series of 2024, the council shall be responsible to monitor, oversee, and coordinate the implementation of all plans, projects, and activities of the city government for the elderlies.

It shall also facilitate the seamless provisions outlined in the law, aiding registered senior citizens in accessing discounts, medical assistance, and other support services.

The EO also mandated the Council to provide a platform for senior citizens to voice their concern and grievances.

“The Council shall serve as a liaison between senior citizens, local government agencies, and relevant stakeholders, to foster collaboration and efficient communication to ensure the consistent delivery of benefits,” the EO read.
