The City Government of Cagayan de Oro staged its inaugural People’s Day exclusively dedicated to solo parents on Sept. 2, 2026, at the City Tourism Hall, rolling out comprehensive frontline social services and welfare assistance for single-headed households. Beneficiaries received essential aid packages, including free medical checkups, maintenance and acute medicines, direct medical assistance, five-kilogram packs of rice, and assistive mobility devices such as wheelchairs. Various city hall departments were also deployed on-site to assist solo parents with scholarship inquiries, local employment facilitation, delayed birth registrations, and business permit renewals.
Despite experiencing mild illness earlier, Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy attended the activity to oversee frontline services and personally interact with the participants. The Politiko underscored that solo parents face unique socio-economic hurdles as dual providers and caregivers, reaffirming the city administration’s sustained commitment to expanding social protection safety nets, livelihood interventions, and targeted local government assistance for solo parents throughout Cagayan de Oro.
