Mayor Uy cites need for Samal to attain SGLG

Island Garden City of Samal Mayor Al David T. Uy has underscored the importance of attaining the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

He made the statement as the national validation team led by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) X) Assistant Regional Director Yvette Sunga recently conducted two phases of assessment of the city government.

The two phases include the on-site validation of the local government unit (LGU) facilities, buildings, and structures; and the evaluation of the documents to support the requirements and criteria. After obtaining the seal in 2019, Samal Island aspires again to obtain the SGLG in 2022.

“Kining SGLG mao kini ang isa sa mga ginapaningkamot gayud na makuha sa mga probinsya, sa mga syudad, mga munisipyo. Ug diri sa atoang pinalanggang isla sa Samal, ginapaningkamutan gyud nato ni,” Uy said.

He thanked the department heads and employees who worked hard to prepare Samal for the assessment and validation.

In order to get the SGLG, the city government needs to pass all 10 governance areas, namely: financial administration and sustainability; disaster preparedness; social protection and sensitivity; safety, peace and order; health compliance and responsiveness; sustainable education; business friendliness and competitiveness; environmental management; tourism, heritage development, culture and the arts; and youth development.
