Island Garden City of Samal Mayor Al David T. Uy has led the inauguration and blessing of a local government-run hostel dormitory that is expected to boost tourism in the city.
The two-storey White Sands Hostel Dormitory located at the Kaputian Beach Park has eight fully air-conditioned rooms, which are budget-friendly, the local government said.
Through the leadership of Uy, with the cooperation of the City Economics Enterprise Management Office headed by Atty. Nimrod Ogatis, the city government said the unfinished building that stayed stagnant for years was finally turned over into a profitable establishment.
“For how many years, the building just stood there, not being finished and so, it earned the moniker of ‘The ruins’ … It just stood there, ginawang bodega, gitubuan na og mga sagbot but through the initiative of City Mayor Al David T. Uy, he allocated a budget to finish this building. We are glad that our mayor has a vision of a businessman- he is a business-minded person,” Ogatis said.
The income from the hostel dormitory will be utilized to support and enable the various programs, and projects dedicated to securing the well-being of the Samaleṅos, the local government said.
The following are the room rates of the hostel dormitory: Rooms good for eight people can be availed for P4,000; rooms good for four people for P2,000; rooms good for six people for P4,000; and rooms with a veranda, good for eight people, for P5,000. Both floors have one common bathroom.
Also, it was made sure that the first floor is convenient for the People with Disabilities, the local government said.
