MGB calls for strong gov’t-private partnership on responsible mining

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Mines and Geosciences Bureau in the Soccsksargen has called for institutional collaboration and strong partnerships of the mining industry and the government in fostering responsible and sustainable mining activity in the region.

During the oath-taking of the newly elected officials of the Soccsksargen Responsible Miners Association (SRMA), MGB XII Regional Director Efren Carido also cited the pivotal role of SRMA in building both a strategic and responsible industry.

“In the face of adversity, the mining industry remains strong, responding to the needs and demands of society. For this to continue, institutional collaboration and strong partnerships with the Local Government Units are needed,” he said.

Carido also emphasized the importance of preventing illegal mining practices in the region.

“SRMA is a member of the Cluster on Gold Trading under the Sub-Committee on Mineral Industry Development (SCMID) XII and through this, we can contribute to the legalization of gold buying and address illegal gold trading in the region,” he added.

Meanwhile, SRMA newly elected president Ret. BGen Joselito E. Kakilala of the Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) committed the company’s mission to deepen public understanding of responsible mining.

“We at the SRMA will be the catalyst for transformation and will serve as the voice of Responsible Mining Advocacy in the region,” he said.
