Migratory birds cause power outages in GenSan

The local power distributor South Cotabato Electric Cooperative II (SOCOTECO) blamed migratory birds for the recent incidents of power outages in General Santos City.

Officials of the power utility explained that these birds that swarmed along J. Catolico Street and other main thoroughfares accidentally hit power lines that caused unscheduled power interruptions.

Known as barn swallows, the migratory bird species are known for traveling long distances to tropical areas like the Philippines to escape winter.

Meanwhile, City Administrator Franklin Gacal said that SOCOTECO II officials have provided assurances regarding the reliability of power supply in the city.

“Sinabi ng SOCOTECO na walang dapat ikabahala sa mga brownouts at walang power crisis.” Gacal said.
