Mining firm produces 19 scholar-graduates in 2024

Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) proudly announced the graduation of its 19 scholars from the Blaan Indigenous Cultural Community (ICC) of Sbangken and host Barangays of Tablu and Danlag in Tampakan, South Cotabato and host Barangay Abnate in Kiblawan, Davao del Sur.

Under its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP), the mining firm said it provides financial aid in terms of allowances and/or support to tuition fees to talented and deserving students to give them access to educational opportunities that are not normally available to them.

For School Year 2023-2024 alone, a total of 1,354 underprivileged but deserving elementary, high school and college students received scholarship grants from SMI. Among these scholars, around 390 would be college students.

“Since 1997, the company had already invested more than PhP1.4 billion in financing various projects and activities that are aimed at improving the socio–economic, health and educational conditions of the communities where the Tampakan Project is located,” SMI said.

With all major approvals and permits from the national government secured, the mining firm expressed readiness to begin construction this year and produce its first copper concentrate in mid-2027.
