MSU-GenSan to halt senior high school admissions

MSU-GenSan Halts Senior High School Admissions:

The Mindanao State University campus in General Santos City has announced that it will stop offering the senior high school (SHS) program for the upcoming academic year 2024-2025.

In an advisory posted on Himig Isko, the official student publication of MSU-General Santos Senior High School, it said that the decision is in compliance with the Commission on Higher Education’s order to discontinue senior high school programs in state universities and colleges (SUCs) and local universities and colleges (LUCs) across the country.

“In compliance with the reiterated decision of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) released last December 18, 2023, through CHED Memorandum Order Nos. 32 and 33, Series of 2015 and 2016, respectively, that concerns the continuation of the Senior High School (SHS) Program in both state universities and colleges (SUCs) and local universities and colleges (LUCs), Mindanao State University – General Santos City’s SHS department officially announces that, as of the upcoming academic year 2024-2025, it will not be conducting the SHS – admission test (SHS-AT) and will no longer accept new students who are not already enrolled in MSU-GSC since junior high school,” the advisory stated.

Earlier this month, CHED Chairperson Prospero De Vera III explained that the engagement of SUCS and LUCs in basic education through senior high school was only limited to the K-12 transition period which is from SY 2016-2017 to SY 2020-2021 only. With the transition period complete, SUCs and LUCs will no longer have any legal basis to ask for funding of their senior high school operations.
