Mt. Apo Natural Park trails shut down until end-March

The trekking activities of all established trains in Mt. Apo Natural Park will be closed from March 20 to 30 this year, the Kidapawan City government said.

The closure is in observance of long drought and fire prevention, a resolution issued by the Mount Apo Natural Park said.

“The local government units have observed and recorded the absence of rain since March 13, 2024, such as the appearance of frost in the camping sites which are know signs of the absence of moisture in the ground and surrounging vegetation,” the resolution read.

It said that prevention of grass fires and other untoward disasters falls within the mandate of the Protected Area Management Bureau to recommend closure of ecotourism activities within the protected area.
