Nuñez asks CAAP to allow taxis in GenSan airport

General Santos City Vice Mayor Rosalita Nuñez has called on the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to allow metered taxi to pickup passengers from the General Santos City International Airport.

Nuñez said she finds it unfair that airport authorities have barred taxis from picking up arriving passengers while allowing Yellow Bus Line to park inside the airport’s waiting area.

“Iyong Yellow Bus which is killing the taxis. I think the Yellow Bus has no business to be inside the airport,” Nuñez said during their regular session on Tuesday.

The transport scheme started in 2021, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, when public transport vehicles were prohibited to enter in all city ports, forcing taxi operators to establish a terminal outside the airport compound.

“Allow taxi to park inside, kahit pakunti-kunti lang… I really pity the taxi drivers, specially na required sila mag-metro. Papunta doon, wala namang pasahero,” the vice mayor added.

Nuñez said the Sanggunian will invite CAAP officials on their next session to shed light on the issue.
