Over 800 Davao de Oro students get financial aid

More than 800 students from the 11 municipalities of Davao de Oro have received P2,000 each in financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The provincial government said the release of fund on Wednesday, May 8, was made possible through the effort of 2nd District Rep. Ruwel Peter Gonzaga, in partnership of the provincial government led by Governor Dorothy M. Gonzaga.

In his message, the lawmaker urged the scholars to help government disseminate the right information about the scholarship program, eliminating the fake news that spread on social media.

Out of the over 800 student-beneficiaries, 788 of them were recipients of the Davao de Oro Scholarship Program (DDOSP) S.Y. 2023-2024 under the Gonzaga administration.

For S.Y. 2024-2025, another 788 students will be selected as recipients of the DDOSP and the selection process is ongoing, the provincial government said.

From the sectors of Non-Indigenous People (IP), IP, and Out-of-School youth, the program extended to other sectors such as Person-with-Disability (PWD), Children of Solo Parents, Friend Rescued (FR), Youth from Geographically Isolated and Disadvantage Areas (GIDA), and Alternative Learning System (ALS).

“This signifies the full commitment of Governor Gonzaga to ensure that all students of any background receive the assistance needed, allowing them to fulfill their dreams and become the amplifiers of change, progress, and development in the future,” the provincial government said.
