Para sa Earth Month! Dalipe admin plants nearly 10K trees in Zamboanga City

The Zamboanga City government, under the leadership of Mayor John Dalipe, has spearheaded a mangrove planting activity in the coast area of Barangay Dita on the east coast.

Almost 10,000 trees were planted on Tuesday, April 30, as part of the Earth Month celebration.

Led by the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources, the activity supports Dalipe’s advocacy to plant one million trees during his first term in office.

“Representatives from various local and national government agencies, including non-government organizations, participated in the event planting a total of 9,777 mangrove propagules in the 2.2-hectare planting site,” the city government said.

Among the species planted were 7,000 bakauan bangkaw; 1,777 bakauan babae; 1,000 bakauan lalake.

A public land, the planting site has been rehabilitated since 2023 based on a clearance granted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR), the city government said, quoting OCENR Assistant head Gerry Pollisco.

Since 2023, 23,000 mangrove propagules, including almost 10,000, have been planted in the area.
