Rep. Claudine Bautista Encourages the Revival of Traditional Filipino Games

Rep. Claudine Bautista has been actively advocating for the revival of traditional Filipino games among today’s youth. This advocacy aligns with her belief that these games not only serve as a source of entertainment but also as a platform for teaching values such as teamwork, camaraderie, and fair play.

“Traditional Filipino games have been a significant part of our childhood. Playing these games wasn’t just about having fun but also about learning important life lessons,” said Rep. Bautista in a recent interview. “I want today’s children to experience the same joy and learning that we did when we were young.”

Bautista, who represents a district in Cagayan de Oro, has been actively promoting games like shatong, tumba lata, Chinese garter, and bulan bulan, among others, in various youth events and school programs. She believes that these games, which are deeply rooted in Filipino culture, can contribute to the holistic development of children.

“When children play traditional Filipino games, they learn the value of teamwork, patience, and perseverance. These games also teach them to respect rules and to be good sportsmen,” she added.

To further promote these games, Bautista has organized community sports festivals and has called on local government units to include these games in their youth development programs. She has also encouraged schools to incorporate traditional Filipino games in their physical education curriculum.

Her efforts have gained support from various sectors, with many acknowledging the importance of preserving Filipino culture and heritage through traditional games.

“Representative Bautista’s advocacy is a welcome initiative. Traditional Filipino games not only contribute to the physical development of children but also help in promoting our rich cultural heritage,” said a local educator, who supports Bautista’s campaign.

Through her advocacy, Bautista hopes to instill in today’s youth a deep appreciation for Filipino culture and values while providing them with enjoyable and meaningful activities.
