Rivera seeks city gov’t spending on education sector

General Santos City Councilor Jane Rivera has sought the status of the utilization of the city’s Special Education Fund, as she called on local officials to ensure smooth reopening of schools in July.

In a resolution, Rivera also requested the Local School Board for its plans and programs for the opening of classes for School Year 2024-2025.

The former chairperson of the council’s committee on education stressed the need for proactive plans for the new school year as necessary to address issues and concerns and ensure a smooth opening of classes.

“This august body deemed it necessary to be informed about the current updates of the utilization of the city’s special education fund and the plans for the opening of classes for the upcoming academic year to further reinforce program and services through appropriate legislations,” Rivera said.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. approved to start reverting the country’s school calendar to the traditional arrangement. Thus, the opening of classes for school year 2024-2025 will begin on July 29 this year and end on April 15, 2025, according the Department of Education.
