Rivera to DepEd: Protect students from hot weather

A city councilor urged the Department of Education (DepEd) in Soccsksargen to provide adequate safety precautions and measures to ensure the safety of students and faculty against the effects of extreme heat brought by the El Niño phenomenon.

Through a resolution, General Santos City Councilor Jane Rivera also asked DepEd to provide adequate sources of potable drinking water to all public schools in the region.

She also reminded everyone to remain hydrated by drinking more water daily to help prevent heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses as temperatures continue to rise.

On Monday afternoon, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said it has recorded a 39.1 °C heat index in the city.
