SOCOTECO-2 implements rotational brownouts

Local power distributor South Cotabato Electric Cooperative (SOCOTECO II) announced on Friday it will implement load shedding or rotational brownouts due to unprecedented surge in electricity demand, in the wake of soaring temperatures and high heat indexes.

The power firm warned that with the current weather condition, some of its distribution power substations may approach critical levels during peak hours.

“We must take collective action to ease the strain on our power infrastructure,” SOCOTECO said in a statement.

It said that when necessary and required, power consumers can expect a 30-minute load shedding during peak periods between 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

“We urge all residents to conserve electricity whenever possible during this period of heightened demand,” it added.
