South Cotabato inflation slows down in May

Prices of goods and services in the market basket of South Cotabato decreased to 4.5 percent in May, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Friday.

The province’s headline inflation last month was lower by 2.3 percentage points from the same month last year at 6.8 percent and 1.8 percentage points lower from 6.3 percent in April 2024.

PSA said the major contributors to the downtrend in the province’s inflation rate were Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages at 5.6 percent; Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels at 8.7 percent; and Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services at 2.7 percent.

“South Cotabato’s inflation was higher by 0.6 percentage point compared to the national estimate of 3.9 percent and was at the same rate as that of the region. The province average inflation stood at 5.5 percent,” PSA said.
