South Cotabato mulls state of calamity declaration due to El Niño

South Cotabato Vice Governor Arthur Pingoy, Jr. has called for a special session of the 14th Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Friday, April 26, to deliberate recommendation of placing the entire province in a state of calamity due to the El Niño phenomenon.

On Wednesday, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) convened for an emergency meeting and passed a resolution recommending the declaration of a state of calamity in the entire province.

The PDRRMC will allocate its 2024 PDRRMF-IP Quick Response Fund (QRF) and 2024 PDRRMF-IP Special Trust Fund to assist the affected families and individuals.

This comes after the declaration of the state of calamity in the towns of Tboli, Banga, and Surallah.

Latest data from the PDRRMC showed that the combined total loss for agriculture amounted to more than P200 million.
