South Cotabato thanks SMI for El Niño aid

The provincial government of South Cotabato, under the leadership of Governor Reynaldo Tamayo, Jr. cited mining firm Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) for its quick response to extended additional relief assistance to families affected by the El Niño phenomenon.

The Provincial Disaster Risk and Reduction and Management Office on Wednesday received from SMI various disaster relief items, including rice, canned goods, and sacks of rice.

“Sagittarius Mines Inc., represented by Mr. Roy Antonio, the External Affairs and Communications Manager, extended additional relief assistance to families affected by calamities in South Cotabato through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office,” the provincial government posted on Facebook.

“This aid aims to reach more beneficiaries, especially those families affected by the El Niño phenomenon in South Cotabato,” it added.

South Cotabato is one of the host provinces of the Tampakan Copper-Gold Project of SMI. Last April 26, 2024, in a joint special session, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan declared South Cotabato under a state of calamity.
