Sultan Kudarat under state of calamity due to El Niño

Sultan Kudarat province has been placed under the state of calamity due to the prolonged dry spell brought by the El Niño weather phenomenon.

The 16th Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Monday, April 15, approved Resolution No. 136 for the said declaration.

The resolution said the severe temperature has greatly affected crop productivity and water availability in the province.

“The Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRM) has sustained major damages on agriculture, crops and livelihood affecting all residents of the Province of Sultan Kudarat and in dire need of emergency assistance,” the resolution read.

Copies of the approved resolution were released Thursday.

Provincial Governor Datu Pax Ali Mangudadatu has already ordered extending the suspension of face-to-face classes in all levels of education in the province up to the end of the month.
