Surigao City Mayor Dumlao meets reps from Japanese firm; carbon project in Caraga region discussed

Surigao City Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II has welcomed representatives from a Japanese company and discussed a new forest-based voluntary carbon project in the Caraga Region.

Kaoru Uehara, Naoki Tokiya, Hayato Takeuchi, Shinya Kimura, Ryota Mineshima, and Michiharu Hiyama of K & O Energy Group Incorporated visited the city for a short meeting with Dumlao together with City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Engr. Jose Alfonso A. Casurra.

The city government said K & O Energy, a client of Nippon Koei Co., will conduct a field survey to formulate and pre-assess the carbon project.

The group will “study the possibility of developing a project to sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through forest conservation and restoration efforts,” it said.

The initiative aligns with efforts to mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable land use practices, the city government added.
