Tampakan mining firm holds community and river cleanup on Earth Day

Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI), the national government’s partner in the development of the Tampakan Copper-Gold Project, conducted a community and river cleanup drive to mark its celebration of the World Earth Day on Monday.

SMI announced that around 15 sacks of trash made of empty plastic water bottles, heaps of sachets, cigarette butts, and diapers were recovered during the activity conducted at Sitio Gumamela in Barangay Pulabato, in the municipality of Tampakan, South Cotabato.

The activity was also in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, DENR-Environmental Management Bureau XII and the local government unit.

SMI was cited by the DENR for its sustained commitment to the protection of the environment through its environmental management practices and enhanced biodiversity conservation programs.

With all major approvals and permits from the national government secured, SMI said it is ready to start construction this year and produce its first copper concentrate in mid-2027.
