Tboli mayor faces raps for allegedly favoring family-owned hotel with tax breaks

Tboli, South Cotabato Mayor Keo Dayle Tuan and other top officials of the municipal government are facing administrative charges for alleged dishonesty and abuse of authority.

An administrative complaint dated June 20, 2024 was filed before the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) against Tuan, Municipal Vice Mayor Ronnie Dela Peña, and Sangguniang Bayan members Kirk Tuan, Mansueto Dela Peña, Pacifico Cordada, Jr., Falin Kuta, Valerio Fado, Gading Kamblan, Romeo Sugan, and Samuel Haus. A certain Evelyn Montil Gregorio signed and filed the complaint.

Gregorio claimed that the respondents abused their authority in granting tax incentives to Crown Jewel Hotel owned by the Tuan family.

The complainant also claimed that the respondents orchestrated the alleged dishonest act when the Provincial Treasurer’s Office issued a Notice of Delinquency to Crown Jewel Hotel for failure to pay real property taxes in the total amount of P3.3 million.

Mayor Tuan is the incumbent Chair of the T’boli Investments and Promotion Board.

“I strongly believe that Crown Jewel Hotel did not fully comply all the stringent requirements to be submitted to the Board to be granted with tax incentives and the Tboli Investments Promotion Board (TIPB) did not follow the proper procedure in the grant of tax incentive to said hotel as clearly and strictly stipulated in the ordinance,” the complaint-affidavit stated.
