Uy admin holds mango contractors’ accreditation training in IGACOS

The Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS), under the leadership of Mayor Al David T. Uy, has facilitated the mango contractors’ accreditation training.

The Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority, in collaboration with the International Veterinary and Agrochemical Incorporated, recently conducted the training attended by 55 mango contractors and inducers on the island.

“Apart from educating and revitalizing the mango contractors in the protocols and precautions in mango spraying and pesticide handling, the training aims to support and facilitate the participants in acquiring a Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) license for mango spray contractors as a prerequisite for a business permit to legalize their operations, especially in mango spraying,” the City Public Information Office (PIO) said.

City Agriculture Office-Crops Regulatory Section Jimuel Rebigan, representing the mayor during the activity, underscored the importance of enhancing the mango industry and capacitating the mango contractors. He said they should not be producers only but businessmen as well.

“Essentially, Samal promotes mango in the One Town, One Product program, as it is one of the prominent agricultural products on the island. With the said training, mango contractors are equipped with the competency to produce high-quality products,” PIO said.
