VG Elmer De Peralta leads youth empowerment program for healthy lifestyles

Vice Governor Dr. Elmer T. De Peralta of Sarangani province played a pivotal role in advancing youth leadership and healthy lifestyle practices during a two-day community engagement program organized by the Philippine College of Lifestyle Medicine (PCLM).

Held from March 6-7, 2024, at Kiamba National High School, the event was a collaborative effort between the Provincial Government of Sarangani and the Department of Education – Sarangani.

Representing the provincial government, Vice Governor De Peralta joined forces with Education Program Supervisor for Science, Ms. Marlou De Arce, to support the initiative aimed at empowering young leaders with essential health habits.

Under Vice Governor De Peralta’s guidance, the program engaged members of the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) from various schools in Kiamba and Maitum.

Together, they explored a range of youth lifestyle management topics led by esteemed medical practitioners from PCLM, including Little Garduque-Calo, MD, Patrik Tan, MD, Coby Carel Ebol, ND, and Reynelyn Valencia, RN.

Key themes covered during the sessions included an introduction to lifestyle medicine, discussions on risky behaviors and addiction, stress management techniques, substance abuse prevention, gut health, hands-on culinary medicine, and self-assessment methods.

As a testament to Vice Governor De Peralta’s commitment to youth development, the program culminated in the election of officers for the Lifestyle Medicine Student Council.

These elected leaders are poised to champion healthy lifestyle practices within their schools and communities under Vice Governor De Peralta’s mentorship and guidance.
