Vice Mayor Maria Isabelle “Beng” Climaco joined Grade 1 and Grade 2 pupils of Cawit Elementary School in Zamboanga City for an interactive storytelling session as part of the Zamboanga City Library’s 2026 Community Literacy Program (CLiP). The municipal literacy drive brought young learners together for a reading session featuring the Chavacano children’s storybook “Si Tito Tortuga y Su Maga Amigos,” encouraging active student participation, comprehension, and curiosity.
Highlighting the growing prevalence of mobile phones, tablets, and screen time among modern youth, the Politiko stressed the enduring importance of nurturing early reading habits and foundational language skills through tangible books. The vice mayor underscored that sparking an appreciation for stories at a formative age fuels children’s imaginations and critical thinking, reiterating the city leadership’s commitment to supporting community-based literacy programs that enrich education and learning opportunities for young Zamboangueños.
