Walang overtime! Rufus Rodriguez wants teachers’ time in class limited to 6 hours

Cagayan De Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez believes teachers shouldn’t spend more than six hours teaching students so they would have more time to plan lessons and do other activities.

Rodriguez has filed House Bill 3815 limiting the class hours of public school teachers to six hours.

In seeking the bill’s passage, the lawmaker said public school teachers are usually only able to allot two hours to planning lessons and talking to parents since they teach for six hours.

“Considering the large number of students in a public school class, plus the irritants that come with the system-cramped or altogether non-existent classrooms, the lack of instructional aids such as blackboard, chalk and textbooks, public school teachers are laboring under all sorts of pressure and working against all odds to deliver educational service,” he said.

Rodriguez said limiting public school teachers’ class hours to six will “raise the quality of basic education” and promote their welfare.
