The Tawi-Tawi government, through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), has facilitated the arrival of deportees from Malaysia at Bongao Port.
More than 350 halaw returned to the province on September 13 following the decision of the Malaysian government to send them back to their country, mostly residents of Tawi-Tawi, the provincial government said.
The United Nations International Organization on Migrants, the Philippine Red Cross, the Ministry of Social Services and Development, the Bangsamoro Commission on Human Rights, the Philippine Navy, the Philippine Coast Guard, members of the Philippine Marines, personnel of the Provincial Police Office, and municipal governments assisted the documentation and processing of the returnees.
Families and friends of several returnees came to the Provincial Isolation Center to fetch their returning loved ones while others were housed at the center for the night.
